Blog comments that should be posts - Joan Menard to retire?

Joan Menard to retire?

Here's the comment with some analysis!

Anonymous said... (12:01 PM, February 02, 2010)

Congratulations and breaking news... Joanie Boloney (Joan Menard) to announce her retirement soon.

Open field will look like this:
Mike Coogan - President of Firefighters Union in Fall River who already announced he was looking

Probable: Rep. Mike Rodrigues of Westport - Selectman Lorne Lawless of Somerset

Possible: Surprise entry from the Fall River City Council, maybe Joe Camara or Linda Pereira or Brad Kilby who have all run for state representative in the past and are possibly still interested in state office. Pelletier, Mitchell, Casey, Bigelow are all either too old or in poor health or couldn't raise the money or just aren't credible candidates. An outside chance of Mike Lund or Eric Poulin maybe, one could raise the money for sure and the other supposedly has high likeability and favorability ratings in Fall River but probably couldn't raise the money. Also Poulin hasn't been on the council long enough so likely too early to jump ship. Lund already has a term in and could do well in Fall River and Swansea.

Well this morning on WSAR they were saying that Menard has not decided if she if going to run or not so it looks like our commenter is on to something and the breakdown is pretty interesting analysis, which is why THIS is a comment that should be a post.

There is going to be a big name that is going to run for this seat. He will become the front runner..,.

...and that big name would be...(insert drumroll here)

Former Fall River Mayor Ed Lambert..who may be seeing his UMass Dartmouth check evaporate soon, depending on how the higher education budget is cobbled together on Beacon Hill..

Linda would take a look at it..as her lust for going to Boston could overtake her reason..

Could Menard be part of the DiMasi mess? Is a one way ticket to Florida a strong possibility?

Lambert was my guess too!

Good luck to Lambert...he'll be kept busy dodging questions about what kind of mess he left after the FY 2006 audit is finalized and available for the world to see...it's a mess...bad news..and it was on his watch!

Oh yeah...I heard Lizzie Borden is coming BACK to town to run (HA!)

Lambert is not running

John Mitchell will win this seat.

Mitchell is in this race. More than one person I know has received a call from him.

Anonymous said...

Yup.....Mitchell is in!

This is tremendous news. Mitchell brings a wealth of experience along with a high intellectual background, he'll be a formidable candidate. I wonder if Rodrigues will stay in the race?

Mitchell will be able to raise a ton of $$$, something Coogan is not capable of doing.

Hope this rumor is true.

Lazurusisus said...

Didn't Mitchell have to resign or quit a race one time because of nearly criminal activity, or very unsavory activity and friends? hmmmmmmmmmmmmm...if so...you know that's going to become known...lmao!

Well if it isn't LazUrAnAss (aka HN-lite) politically pontificating so as to share his dim wit with us.

LazUrAnAss seems to dislike anyone called "Mayor". He has scribed negatively about Flanagan, Correia and Lambert. Now, even Mitchell is admitted to the "LazUrAnAss Hates Mayor (PRINT NAME HERE) Society". Of course, LazUrAnAss flips and flops more than a beached LARGE-MOUTH bass. Once his announced political enemy wins an election, he immediately switches sides (see "LazUrAnAss sucks up to Flanagan after victory").

Let history teach us an important lesson - place your bets on whomever LazUrAnAss opposes, for that is who will win. You see, LazUrAnAss is not only a dim wit, he's also wrong all of the time.

And you were a fan of Correia...and the "URINECANE""...lmfao--- two guys who took all of the oxygen out of the room for moron's, psychpathjs and mental defectives, not to mention liars and criminals...wah, wah, wah, help me Linda, help me Sportcoat Joe, even though you still sign your letters with an "X" because you are such a ullard...LMAO@U...give it up schmuck...in a battle or wits you come unarmed....

Somehow...when people get into the Mayor's chair in Fall River...they become socio-paths...and many, MANY of those who supported Flanagan have not heard one word from him...and I'm talking about the Transition Folks...guess that was all for show! Like the previous poster....you should try writing a blog...but crayons don't show up online! :)

Lefty would not print the las comment about the Hurricane I made, because it came from folks I know in the police comunity, and is the TRUTH...and if you read it, you'd be on the floor in a fetal position sucking yur thumb...go sober up...or at least try to...before your next court appearence!

Lazurusisus said...

lol...Lefty has special "Hurricane Love"...hell, that's worse than wanting SMILES to continue...

Lefty said...

Laz WHAT THE HELL are you talking about? I haven't deleted any comments today at all.

Might be time to check your meds!

I don't care for personal attacks on the blog mostly because they derail the conversation. I particularly hate comments about Herren because they seem to just invite every idiot in the city to comment.

As for SMILES I've known a few children who have benefited from having a caring mentor in their life and it's a program that I think has some merit.

Anonymous said...

Well Rodrigues is in and one of the slimiest of all the failed political candidates for council was soliciting support for him today which basicaly made me switch my preference to someone else = not sure yet. Why don't established candidates check out police and court records before they have someone solicite suport on their behalf?
as far as SMILES is concerned, the program may be great in hter places but what Lefty and others fail to see locally is that by elevating its importance above all the other programs that
are actually impactful, effective
and been doing good for longer, it has disproportionately increased the importance of someone who was driven out of the new bedford chamber for numerous reasons yet is glorified in Fall River, given important positions and using the corrupted political links to the NB underworld to try and influe
nce our fair city while appearing above board with the blessing of the newspaper due to news nepotism. So forgive people Lefty, if they have seen far too much attention given to someone who has not rolled up their sleeves in our city yet, is praised like he actually cares for anything other than power and assuming more and more.

Anonymous said...

Well, what other programs have been effective and warrant some positive attention?

SMILES also operates in New Bedford too so it is not like Mathes was run out of town.

Anonymous said...

SMILES is supported with $1 million of my tax dollars every year thanks to Joanie the Phoney.
The proram has almost no employees, all mentors are volunters, but it takes in millions from corprate sponsores. Where does the money go? It's a ponzi scheme.
The prgoram gets special treatment because its boss, Jimmy Viagara is sleeping with Sterile Snooze Edit Clown Lis Strattan.THe program takes donations from entitities, like the redeveopment authority, that the Sterile covers.
Jimmy Viagara got on the mayors transition tem and his g/f directs Sterile Snooze coverage of the mayor.
Fall River needs to stop old boy/old girl network corruption

Anonymous said...

If you want to know what SMILES does with its money then go ask them for their IRS Form 990 which is a Return for an Organization Exempt from Income Tax.

How would you fix this alleged conflict of interest? Should Mathes resign? Strattan resign? Flanagan resign? or all of the above?

I am not sure if you are aware but Fall River has a very high dropout rate. Now we have an organization that is trying to prevent dropouts by providing mentors.

Isn't it obvious that for such an important issue that the media and the mayor are going to be supportive of their efforts?

However, I don't see that the Herald News is giving Flanagan favorable treatment solely because he supports SMILES.

This is wht the Sciety of Professional Journalists thinks about confict of interest.

Journalists should be free of obligation to any interest other than the public's right to know.

Journalists should:

—Avoid conflicts of interest, real or perceived.
— Remain free of associations and activities that may compromise integrity or damage credibility.
— Refuse gifts, favors, fees, free travel and special treatment, and shun secondary employment, political involvement, public office and service in community organizations if they compromise journalistic integrity.
— Disclose unavoidable conflicts.
— Be vigilant and courageous about holding those with power accountable.
— Deny favored treatment to advertisers and special interests and resist their pressure to influence news coverage.

So, Coogan, Rodrigues, and Mitchell are in the race. Whom else is going to step in? Kilby? Sullivan? Lambert? Aguiar?

This will be an interesting summer.

Anonymous said...

Jimmy Viagra is thinking about running for Mayor of New Bedford according to the Standard Times. Great, we have someone who has his eyes on the Mayor's office in NB on the transition team in Fall River. Bet he really has Fall River's interests at heart. Can you imagine Lisa "the town whore" Stratton as First Lady of New Bedford?

Anonymous said...

It looks like Rodrigues and Coogan will be the early favorites. Time will tell who is really strong enough to mount a good campaign.

Anonymous said...

Actually the one candidate who will have the biggest organization and be able to jump out front is Rodrigues. And he already has a sizable campaign warchest to get things rolling. Mitchell could be an interesting addition. But no one should be able to keep pace with Rodrigues. He's too well known and will have the best organization from start to finish.

Anonymous said...

Which brings up another good question - who is likely to run for Rodrigues State Rep seat? He's held that job for a long time. Will it end up being someone from Westport, or will someone from Fall River be able to win it?

Anonymous said...

I wouldn't think that Joe Camara or Linda Pereira would have a realistic shot at this seat. Brad Kilby is a different story. He doesn't have the negative history the other two have. But he just got back onto the City Council. Even though he wouldn't have to give up his Council seat to run, it would make him look a little like a guy who will run for anything, and that isn't good. If he does a decent job on the Council, he'll be in a good position to be Mayor someday. Thats what I would expect from him.

Anonymous said...

Kilby isnt even in Rodrigues' district. Didn't he run for the district currently held by Sullivan?

Anonymous said...

How about Dave Dennis...he is in Rodrigues district
