Cathy Ann Wins!

The poll on Fall River Blog is over and the majority have selected Cathy Ann Viveiros for the next mayor of Fall River with 53% of the vote. Will Flanagan finished with 35% of the vote and 9% voted for "none of the above".

It is my understanding that CAV has a huge lead in the polling that has been taken.

Anonymous said...

Yes, I hear it is going to be a landslide.

Pretty damned impressive. Flanagan took over a third of a poll on a CAV biased blog.

I rec. a polling request at my home yesterday. I voted CAV.

Lefty,

I cannot wait to see the same headline splashed across the front page of the local blogs and the Herald News on November 4th!

Anon 2:15,

Fall River Blog isn't a "CAV biased blog".

I'm not sure it is even fair to say that A View From Battleship Cove is. I am very open minded toward Will and would love for him to give me a reason to support him.

Anon 2:26,

It will be interesting to see how these results compare with real life on November 4th.

Lefty:

If Cathy Ann wins it will be a shocker. The people voted Bob Correia out of office on 09/15 and there is no way they will replace her with CAV. And Lefty have you spoke with Mr. Flanagan or reached out to him to see where here stands on the issues that matter to you?

Why won't will commit to any positions? Why is he so elusive, that he has to tell you where he stands 'on the phone'.

To me that just sounds like he is being sneaky. Telling everyone what they want to hear. I want to know firmly what he believes.

Did Fear and Loathing contribute to the poll?

Anon,

What are you basing this on?

Over 10,000 voters did not vote for Will. Will only managed to get 271 votes more than Bob! There are rougly 7,000 votes that went to candidates other than Will or CAV, who gets those? Gee, the anti-Cathy crowd LOVE to say she's Bob in a skirt. You better hope not or else she'll wind up with Bob's votes! Yes, I know Ray Hague endorsed Will, but personally I don't think that is going to translate into 2,400 more votes in Flanagan's column. I think if you voted for Bob, Cathy, Ray or Steve in the preliminary "experience" probably factored into your decision. I'm not saying that means they all go to Cathy but I certainly don't think those are anti-incumbent votes.

Have I reached out to Will Flanagan? I have traded a few emails with him, certainly nothing earth shattering. I appreciate that he has reached out to keep me in the loop. Have I asked him specific questions looking for those answers that matter most to me? No. It wouldn't hurt to have done so, but I detest having to pull teeth to get the specifics.

I have no idea if "Fear and Loathing" voted in this poll or not.

I can tell you honestly that I did not vote in the poll.

Listen to the debates please. Read resp. to the questions. No knock on Will, but, CAV is the more educated choice. This is clear to me. I must say, however, that if elected, her first term is going to be as tough as Bob's was. No doubt about it!!! She will need the cooperation of the unions and other elected offic. for sure.

Cathy's answers sound better but you can't trust her to carry them out, her record over the last 2 years should prove that she isn't trustworthy.

CAV has the education, work and political experience and hands on understanding of this City's finances to be our absolute best bet in the troubled fiscal times that are here in full force. She answers tough questions, She is open to new ideas. She is a realist who speaks in specifics, not sound bites full of cliche's. I really don't care about the machinations of the last two years...Correia set the agenda because the City Charter gives the mayor ALL the power to do so. She was one of the few voices to decry the analysis of numbers presented by the Mayor when the public safety cuts were made. She knows that the constitutional issues surrounding Strip Joints have been settled by the state and federal supreme courts already and to try to fight them locally with restrictive liscencing and permits will only result in needless and very, very expensive court decisions facing Fall River at the precise time we can least afford them. Folks, let's get our collective heads out of the sand because the Adult Entertainment Zone issue seems to have been settled everywhere in the US but fall River. I doubt we will be the first to restrict them as Mendon claims to have. The only reason why they have gotten away with it so far is that it has not yet been tried a second time!
CAV wants accountability at City Hall and The School Department, and as a prior career as a teacher in Fall River I think she is the only candidate to understand the entire 2nd half of the Mayoral job description. She has maintained anj open view of the future while understanding that cuts are coming and wishing them away and promising monies to unions and causes the City does not have, and will not have for the immediate and mid-term future.
Frankly, she knows more about how to run a City the size of Fall River than does a candidate who has served o0ne year as a part time City Attorney for the City of Taunton.

In short, it MUST be CAV, The vote to oust Correia was an angry vote by the overwhelming number of hardworking Fall River citicens that want the titticut follies at City Hall to end - they want reliable competence with a track record...THAT LEAVES CAV'S OPPONENT OUT......On Nov. 3, I'm voting for CAV!!!
Maybe Will should first run for City Council....get some seasoning...then run for Mayor..THAT, makes the most sense of all!

Anon 7:49 I did listen to the debates and I can see how you could be easily impressed by Cathy's responses at the time. The question is, after finding out that she played fast and loose with the facts, how can you still sing her praises? She was proven wrong on the CSO bond rating and Mendon adult entertainment regulations. Her education platform which she passes off as her own, is straight from the state ed-reform.

Sorry Laz but lies are not specifics, and Bob was also a teacher, and had no clue about education.

Anonymous said...

Beware! She spoonfeeds you all her so-called great ideas and they taste oh so sweet but they will give you CAVities.

Anonymous said...

Umm, I think Cathy was found to be right on the CSO.

Anonymous said...

by umm, whom, terry sullivan great way to factcheck ask the person who would look foolish if he now said it was wrong.

reality check said...

Anon 10:57 I don't believe you could be talking about her claim that the bonds were 0% for 30 years, because if you are, then Umm you are wrong.

CAV is absolutly correct on both CS and Strip JOINTS the "Mendon" way. I wrte an article on both on my blog "chowmeinsammich", and I'msure she'll bring up some oif the points i made in that aricle, such as:

* State law allows a x. amortization of rwater and sewer pojects of 30 years, not 5o! (see MGL, Chjapter 44, section 7 and 8). Some watermains may go to 4, but only SOME...also, the longer you bond, the greater the interest rate charged, and with a community with out poor rating, adding an additional 20 years will wipe out anyand all advantags the current low rates provide.. those low rates ONLY apply to triple A rated communites, which we are far and away NOT! Sorry, Willy is wrongo on his bongo!

Mendon logic? Mendon is a town, toney town at hat, with just over 5,000 people and with median home values of $500,000!. Median means half woth more than 500K, half worth less than that, which ,most likle means the AVERAGE is much higher then $500K!.. I'd say it's a bit dfferent tere than here...Also, no one else has tried in mendon...WHY? Not because of those moronic, mall time regulations..there are no less than 8 strip joints less than 20 minutes away from mendon...no one is building in a wealthy suburban community because they can drive to providence or Worcester instead! If it was a highly populATED RUN DOWN cITY LIKE fALL rIVER, THEY'D BE WILLING TO SPEND THE LeGAL FEES THEY KNoW THEY'LL WIN BACK IN FED COURT TO ENFORCE SUPREME COURT DECISIONS ALREADY DECIDED IN FAVOR OF STRIP JOINTS...GET IT?!

Enough already...what else have you got...'cause he's not winning on these two issues!

How long was she a teacher for? Her management experience is over exagerated, she poorly managed tow malls and her job performance at the last 3 real jobs was dismal. What is her track record with her secret consulting job?

I would prefer to take a chance on the new kid on the block rather than more proven poor performance.

sorry that's how I feel you are entitled to your opinion.

Will's record of accomplishment:

Political hack job courtesy of the DA.

Political hack job courtesy of the Mayor of Taunton.

Bagboy.

Anonymous said...

Why is any job in government automatically a political hack job? Surely there are some hack jobs but where is the evidence that Will didn't get any of these jobs based on merit?

Anonymous said...

I apologize, he probably did get the bagboy job on merit.

Anonymous said...

So the other jobs he didn't get on merit but you have no evidence to offer that proves that, just your innuendo?

Anonymous said...

Which is similiar to the statements cathy makes about all her experience all exagerated and inuendo. Exactly what emergency assistance did she provide during the great blizzard of 78?

Why is it that some of the same people that try to puff up what Flanagan does in Taunton want to cut the equivalent position in Fall River? Either the position of Asst. City Solicitor/Asst. Corporation Counsel is worthwhile or it isn't. If it is then we shouldn't be thinking of getting rid of it, if it isn't then Flanagan does a pretty much worthless job.
