Hi Lefty, figured your readers may want to take a look at something i stumbled upon which raises alot of questions about ethics and our mayor. In looking in the Portuguese Times newspaper of NEw Bedford I stumbled across a full page advertisement for Mayor Correia on page 19. While we know the mayor needs at least a good portion of the Portuguese vote to win - which i doubt he will get, what was odd and very interesting was that the ad was accompanied alongside it with what looks like a newstory about him on page 18. The headline translated says "leadership that produces results." The story is absurd but it shows how he has targetted the Portuguese community. It says no where that this story is an advertorial nor does it have any real news in it, just paid, paid paid. I could find no other example of this in Portuguese now Enlgish in fact. Now the question is is the lack of Bob ads in the locacl papers of Fall River a result of them having been too critical of him in the past, or that he can not control their editorial content like he can the Portuguese Times of New Bedford. And is he sending a message to the local papers that he would rather buy a story in that paper than pay for an ad in the local papers?
Is this not an ethics violation?

does the spending for Port Times show up in his campaign reports?

Good question, while you are looking into that could you also check on the coffee hour that the registrar of deeds ( elected official) held for the mayor on or about August 28, 2009???

It appears his campaign reports show this expenditure :

A Patrick spokesman said yesterday the governor, after warning all week of possible legal action against Timilty, does not plan to push the matter further.

'We will not pursue our legal options any further but will cooperate with any investigation by law enforcement agencies that might arise,' the spokesman, Stephen Crawford said.

The mailing sent to her constituents in the waning days of the election featured a picture of Timilty and Patrick smiling together and a phony letter from Patrick, emblazoned with a copy of his signature, urging voters to 'Please join me in supporting Kelly Timilty for Gov ernor's Council.'

Timilty handily won reelection to the council on Tuesday. But Patrick's office issued a statement renouncing the mailing and said the governor was considering legal action. State law prohibits candidates from promoting themselves by using someone else's name without the 'express consent' of that person.

Timilty yesterday offered a general description of the events that led up to the mailing. She said she appeared at an event with the governor two weeks ago and posed for a picture with him. After speaking with a 'reliable third party,' whom she refused to name, Timilty told her campaign staff that she had the governor's endorsement and handed over the photo. 'I thought it was OK'd,' she said.

Her campaign then gave the material to a political consulting firm, Brighton-based Cence Cincotti Strategies, which designed the mailer and affixed a picture of the governor's signature culled from another document.

Dan Cence, a partner in the firm, said it was not forged. 'It was a reproduction of a picture,' he said.

Cence submitted the final product to Timilty's campaign for approval and then mailed it out. He said a member of her campaign staff signed off on it, though he would not identify the person by name.

'The councilor was not in the loop on the authorization of the campaign pieces,' Cence said

You are all too much. I have not read one positive comment on this blog lately.

When we have a positive mayor you will read a positive comment.

I like Poulin, Miozza, Dennis and Bartley so far for City Council. There, that was positive wasn't it? I am positive that we need reform.

Good Luck. You may only get Poulin.

Low voter turnout. All incumbents re-elected along with former councilors Kilby and Mitchell. There will be 1 new person but probably not Poulin, he has stood up to the establishment too much. His pull back the curtain on city's power brokers letter to the editor did him in for good with the Karams.
